- One Year Back in Israel: Chasing the Next Adventure & What I’ve Learned
Hey guys! Hope you’re all doing well. Enjoying a golden hour stroll, soaking up the beauty of home and nature. I wanted to take a moment to share some reflections on this past year- moving back to Israel, navigating the ups and downs of settling in, and the deeper questions of what it truly means to feel at home. One Year Back in Israel: Still adjusting…but making it home. Still figuring out where the best place is to buy groceries. Still re-adjusting to the very different Israeli mentality. Still emotionally navigating being part of a community that has been through so much in the last year and a half. Moving is Hard and Finding Your Groove Takes Time Moving is such an interesting thing. I feel like It takes at least a year to begin acclimating to a new place, and even longer to begin feeling like you belong. There’s always this phase of feeling like you're in between two worlds and that means dealing with a great deal of unknowns. After living in NYC for a number of years, we traveled for six months in Mexico, Central and South America. We were sleeping in a new bed every few nights, meeting new people, eating different foods. Nothing was what I was used to. I adjusted to not having my own place or my own things. I got used to not feeling attachment to places, to things, to daily routines. Instead of this lifestyle being unsettling or even scary, it was actually liberating. It made me feel empowered like I could go anywhere in the world and make it work. I wasn’t tied to anything. I was light, flexible… flowing. And then we moved back to Israel. Back to my husband's kibbutz. Things still feel pretty momentary. We don’t really have a place of our own. We’ve been subletting a house that belongs to friends who needed a break from Israel after October 7th. We don’t really have a place of our own. Their return date is unknown, and that uncertainty has been working for us. We have no furniture of our own, no kitchen appliances- just two suitcases each. And for a while, that felt fine. My “home” was where my husband was, where my computer was and where my work was. All good…until something shifted. Avoiding Commitment vs. Finding Home At first, this life with no real attachments felt freeing, but over time, I started noticing something else. I wasn’t just avoiding attachment to a place , I was avoiding commitment to the experience of being here. I wasn’t really settling in. I wasn’t making this house, this kibbutz, or even this country feel like home again. Instead, I kept looking for the next thing. The next adventure. The next way out. And then came the bigger questions: What about family? What about kids? I want those things… but how does that desire fit into this “always being able to move, chasing the next thing, never settling” mentality? How do I build something real and stable while still holding onto the freedom that has become so much a part of me? I don’t have the answer yet. But I do know that part of my need for “freedom” is a fear of feeling stuck. A fear of committing to one place, one way of life, one version of the future. I worry that choosing one path will mean closing all the other doors. Being Present Instead of Searching And honestly, it seems that this fear isn’t just mine. It’s part of the world we live in today. I see it with my clients, my friends, and really, to some degree, with anyone living a Western lifestyle. Many of us live in an age of endless options. We can move countries, change careers, and even switch relationships more easily than ever before. We’re conditioned to always look for something better- more money, a nicer apartment… a more beautiful life. But in chasing that “ more”, we often forget to fully experience what we have right now. I oftentimes feel guilty of this. Even while traveling, I’d constantly think about the next destination, the next place we’d go. And in doing that, I sometimes missed the magic of where I already was. I still have this in me- the need to feel like I always have an escape, like I can always choose something else. But I also know that just like mindfulness teaches us to be present in each moment, the real challenge, the real greatness , is in fully being where you are. Yes, you can always change. Yes, you can always strive for more. But maybe the secret isn’t in constantly searching, it’s in realizing that right now, this is exactly where you’re meant to be. And when you fully land in the present, something amazing happens. You settle in. You feel at home. You create. Paradoxically, that feeling of being grounded is what allows you to move forward and evolve in the most natural, aligned, and authentic way. No fear. No feeling of missing out. Just trusting that the most important moment I have, the moment in which I am truly meant to be …is the one I am in right now. Embracing Here and Now So for now, my goal isn’t to plan the next move or search for the next adventure, it’s to find peace right here. I know that at any moment, we could pack our bags and shift our lives in a completely new direction. But instead of always looking ahead, I’m choosing to focus on fully being here , fully embracing this chapter, fully grounding myself in this place and this time…and fully allowing myself to feel like I am home. I’m excited about what here and now will bring into our lives. And when the time comes for our next adventure, I want to step into it with a deep sense of peace knowing I will be fully present for it as I was with my previous journeys. MUVwell Hack of the Week: Plan Your Movement Most people who struggle to stay consistent with movement have one thing in common-they don’t have a plan. Without a structured approach, it’s easy to jump between workouts, second-guess yourself, or lose motivation. This week, take a moment to map out your movement. Whether it’s scheduling three Pilates sessions, committing to daily mobility work, or following an on-demand program, having a plan is half the battle. Set yourself up for success, your body thrives on consistency! With a wish of wellness, Liron
- The Non-Perfect Pregnancy for Perfectionists
aka: when your body reminds you who’s really in charge I'm pregnant! Let’s just say that my pregnancy has been far from perfect. I’ve shared a few happy, glowing photos recently because I am finally feeling better - but I realized that only tells part of the story. So here’s the truth: The first trimester was rough . I’ve been wanting to write about it, but I wasn’t ready. Now that I’m feeling more like myself, I want to share a bit of what that time actually felt like, especially for anyone who’s been through or is now experiencing it and wondering: Is this normal? The answer: yes, and some . Pregnancy for Perfectionists First Trimester: A Lesson in Letting Go No one talks enough about how physically incapacitating those early weeks can be. I was nauseous 24/7, beyond exhausted, and barely functioning between client sessions. I’d teach, then crawl into bed until the next one. I wasn’t working out, I wasn’t eating the foods I usually love (don’t even ask about vegetables), and even basic tasks like doing laundry felt like a full-on expedition. For someone like me, who’s used to feeling strong, active, and in control - this was jarring. I didn’t feel like myself. Not even close. When Your Body Becomes… Not Just Your Own There was this bizarre sense that something else had tak en over. This “something else” was choosing what I’d eat, when I’d sleep, what I was capable of that day. My body was changing before my eyes, shifting in ways I couldn’t predict or manage. And as a proud recovering perfectionist/control enthusiast... this was not easy. Let’s not even get into body image yet (I’ll save that for another post). But I’ll just say: seeing your body change so fast when you can’t do much about it messes with your head. A lot. The Silent Part To top it off, those first few months are often quiet. You’re waiting on test results. You’re worried. And unless you've told people, you're holding it all in, without your usual support system to lean on. Even with an incredible partner (and mine is), it’s a lot to carry alone. The Unexpected Gift But here’s the thing: As hard as it was (and still is, in some ways), there was also something deeply freeing about it. I had no choice but to surrender. I’mI learning to trust this process that is way bigger than me. A process as old as time…literally. And slowly, something shifted. Pregnancy - this wild, powerful, mysterious thing, is teaching me to let go. Of control. Of expectations. Of needing to “do it all” all the time. And weirdly, that felt kind of… peaceful. The Bigger Lesson You don’t have to be pregnant to relate to this. I think we all live with this illusion that we’re in control, and when life shakes that up, we resist. And maybe the real work for all of us perfectionists, is learning how to be okay with being a little messy, a little uncertain, a little more human. For me, this whole experience has truly been Pregnancy for Perfectionists - a reminder that sometimes the most important growth comes when we surrender control. And maybe it’s not about being perfect. Maybe it’s just about being present.
- Why Listening to Your Body is the Latest Health Trend
Your Body Isn't A Trend Hey everyone! I hope you’re doing well and looking forward to the holiday season! It’s a great time to reflect on how to stay balanced and prioritize what makes you feel good. Doesn’t it seem like there's a new health trend every week? There’s always someone telling you what and when you should (or shouldn’t) eat, the ideal workouts to do, or the latest ways to care for your mind and body. Trying to keep up with these trends can feel overwhelming, and it’s easy to get lost in all the advice. Your Body Isn’t a Trend The key word here is trend - but your body isn’t a trend. It’s yours for life, and while it may change over time, it has unique needs that can’t be met with a “one-size-fits-all” approach. The core of wellness is respecting the individual: learning and honoring your own body’s signals and needs. It’s not about following a cookie-cutter approach; it’s about creating a personalized health recipe. Now, that might sound like a lot of work, but in reality, it’s intuitive. All it takes is tuning into your body. Are you tired? Hungry? Feeling tense? All these signals are your body’s way of telling you what you need. Why I Stopped Listening To Every Health Fad I see this often with clients who start a program without noticing how it actually makes them feel. For example, I once tried intermittent fasting when it was all the rage. It seemed to work wonders for others, so I thought, why not? However, I soon realized it was affecting my hormones and energy. Like many women, fasting disrupted my cycle and left me feeling off-balance. I was trusting the trend more than my own body, and that was a mistake. This is just one example of why it’s essential to listen to your own cues. No trend can work for everyone, and many aren’t sustainable. Think of it like a trendy dessert pop-up shop: everyone’s lining up for a couple of weeks, then it fades. Health fads are often the same way. Proactively Getting the Most Out of Your Healthcare Team I always remind clients that it’s essential to feel empowered to initiate asking questions about lifestyle, health trends, etc. and engage actively in their care. By tuning into your body and sharing what you notice with your healthcare providers, you create a collaborative approach that brings out the best in their expertise. Melissa’s foot pain Melissa suffered from chronic foot pain and was prescribed medication without understanding the source of her pain. Her daily habits, shoe choices, and other simple factors weren’t even considered. After working together and digging a bit deeper, we realized her insoles were causing compression and nerve pain. She felt heard, and the solution was surprisingly simple. She felt heard because she was able to express her concerns and describe accurately her discomfort. As a team, finding the solution was surprisingly simple. Takeaway: Trust Yourself First. Listen to your body The takeaway? You know your body best. Doctors and therapists are valuable resources, but they’re guides, not the ultimate authority on what’s right for you. Their advice is essential, but it’s just that advice. When you feel in sync with your body and your care team, you’re setting yourself up for better health, quality of life and true fulfillment.Take charge by listening to your body and embracing the full support your practitioners can offer. - Finding Balance: My Journey from Over-Exercising to Listening to My Body
Hi everyone! I love having you here and sharing my journey with you. Life in NYC I lived in New York City for five years. Living that crazy big city lifestyle—you know, the one where you're literally running around between work, workouts, and socializing, trying to do everything at the same time? The one where you have a 2-minute gap between each activity, leaving absolutely zero room for any late train or unexpected phone call? Well, I was living that life, and let me tell you, it was both AMAZING and OVERWHELMING, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Living in NYC often made me feel on top of the world, able to do anything and everything all at once. Walking around the city often felt like being in a race where everyone is on their way to their next event, meeting, or workout. Sometimes the pace pushed me to feel like I had to do more, like I had to constantly increase the intensity. I felt compelled to go to the gym almost every day and constantly push myself… Even when my body was exhausted, I wouldn't give up on exercising and felt the need to up my game all the time. The Mistake of Over-Exercising I am here to tell you that this was a WILD mistake. Working against my body yielded no positive results. I didn’t gain muscle mass, I wasn’t able to increase the weight I was lifting, and I didn’t look or feel good largely because I was tired, stressed, and bloated. Gradually, I started to learn my body and realized that I needed to sometimes pull back. I started asking myself—do you really feel like doing this workout? Maybe something else? Maybe nothing at all? And what a surprise—everything was still okay! I didn’t gain weight, and I stayed in shape. I started taking at least 2-3 days with lighter exercise and at least 1-2 full rest days. I started feeling better and seeing more gains from what I was doing. When I had a lot of energy, I went harder, and when I didn’t, I took it slow or even rested. I listened to my body, and my body responded. My energy levels improved, and I felt excited about moving my body. Finding Balance During Travel I was fully able to escape the rat race of exercise when my husband and I traveled for five months. I didn't know how it would be because I wouldn't be able to work out as usual, but I brought a band, a ball, and a magic circle, did Pilates a few times a week, occasionally went on short runs when we were on a beach, and mostly just walked while we explored new and beautiful places. I felt good, more relaxed and my body seemed to be more at peace. There was balance. I was happy. Guidelines for a Healthy Exercise Program So what are good guidelines for a healthy exercise program? This differs for each person, and each day brings differing needs and abilities. How much are we sleeping? How well are we eating? Where are we in our monthly cycle? How much do we have going on in our schedule? How much stress are we carrying with us? This isn’t just a recommendation for people living the big city lifestyle. There are stressors in everyday life anywhere we are. Managing our work life, taking care of children or other family members, and dealing with life’s hiccups all need to be considered to enable us to take adequate care of ourselves…to push through when necessary, to make time for enjoyment in our lives, and to be our healthiest selves. Personalized Exercise Plans for Optimal Health I am trained and sensitive to the differences between each of us and am available for a consultation to design an appropriate exercise routine for your body. My skills as a Physical Therapist and my background as a Pilates instructor and posture specialist enable me to create the most individualized care plan for you. - The Israeli Wellness Entrepreneur Who Moved from NYC to Living half a mile away from the Gaza Border
My name is Liron, and I'm a Physical Therapist, Pilates instructor, posture specialist and Wellness Entrepreneur from Israel. My journey has taken me from the bustling streets of New York City to the turbulent life on the Gaza border, in my husband’s small collective community, Kibbutz Erez. Us! Traveling in Hawaii While living in NYC for four years and working at an outpatient clinic, I treated countless individuals suffering from pains and injuries that severely impacted their well-being. Their discomfort affected their ability to perform daily activities, engage in workouts, and find comfort at their desks. This experience highlighted a common thread amongst my patients: the way they carried their bodies in daily activities and workouts had a direct impact on their quality of life. Their postural habits often led to their bodies' wear and tear over time. Understanding the contribution that I could make, and the strengths and assets of my various professional disciplines, I was inspired to create a lasting solution for my clients. My background in Physical Therapy, posture, and Pilates enabled me to design a holistic wellness program individually tailored to those with whom I was working. This realization led to the development of my unique approach: The MUV Method. Built on the science of body movement, anatomy, and physiology, this approach guarantees long-term results, allowing people to return to the activities they love, pain-free. The beauty of MUVwell lies in its flexibility. With my diverse On Demand library, you can take your Pilates workouts anytime, anywhere. In addition, I have created programs for specific concerns, whether it's back pain, core strength, or increased flexibility. Our programs cater to all fitness levels and durations, ensuring a perfect fit for anyone's needs, abilities and schedules. My husband and I decided to take a break from NYC to travel through Colombia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Mexico. We were renting a beautiful apartment in a small beach town in Mexico when our world changed dramatically. On the night of October 6th, we were at a Friday night dinner, enjoying our time with other travelers. On and off throughout the meal, my husband, Shir, was uncharacteristically on his phone. His worried look alerted me to understand that something worrisome was happening. He revealed that terrorists had infiltrated our kibbutzim, and our loved ones were fighting for their lives. The news was shocking and terrifying. The following days were sleepless, filled with deep anxiety and worry, and constant phone checks for whatever updates we could get on our family and friends. We could only pray for their safety and survival. Having lived so close to the Gaza border, we always feared such an event, but we never imagined a scenario as horrifying as what unfolded. We later learned that friends and acquaintances had been murdered or kidnapped. It was devastating. We felt helpless being so far from home. Ironically or not, and despite the continued danger, we became growingly committed to helping our communities re-build… body and soul. Our kibbutz, once lively and filled with children, was now sparsely populated and eerily quiet except from the noise of warfare on both sides of the border. My involvement with rebuilding our community has made me feel more committed to working with people in all areas of my life; more devoted to using my professional skills and outlooks to enable people to heal themselves and fulfill their potential. As my main focus, MUVwell fits directly into my continuing values of community, wellness and resilience. It makes science-based quality of life accessible to everyone. MUVwell has grown significantly since its inception. What started as a solution to help my patients in NYC has now evolved into a comprehensive online platform, reaching people worldwide. The flexibility and accessibility of our programs have allowed us to connect with an international audience, providing tailored wellness solutions to people from all walks of life. As I continue to work and create content, I am focused and devoted to the growth and success of our MUVwell community. Our journey, filled with unexpected challenges, is one of resilience, adaptability and an undeniable belief in the potential of each and every one of us.
- Pilates for Men: Guys, let’s talk Pilates.
Joseph Pilates Ever wondered why so many people think Pilates is just for women? It’s confusing, especially since men are embracing other wellness trends like Yoga. So why hasn’t Pilates made the cut? Here’s a fun fact: Pilates was actually created by a man - Joseph Pilates, a professional boxer and self-defense instructor. During World War I, he developed the Pilates method to help rehabilitate injured soldiers and POWs, using his knowledge of bodybuilding, gymnastics, and physical therapy to create a system that strengthens the body from the inside out. He saw no difference between men and women when it came to who could benefit from the practice. So , why are men missing out on Pilates? Let’s debunk some common misconceptions: - They think it’s too easy, slow, or gentle. - It’s seen as more appropriate for flexibility than for strength-building and muscle development. - They believe only big, heavy moves build muscle. - Some men think that doing Pilates will make them look weak or feel out of place. Several other issues might be at play: Men are often inclined to wait until something goes wrong before taking action, instead of preventing or avoiding injury. And... if I’m being honest, it’s understandable that some men might feel a bit out of place in a room full of women in yoga pants. But here’s the reality : Pilates is anything but easy. Yes, it can be slow, but it creates a deep, controlled burn that challenges your core strength, balance, and stabilizing muscles in ways traditional workouts can’t. In fact, it’s widely used in professional sports to boost performance, treat and prevent injuries, and improve posture. There’s no other exercise that targets your core quite like Pilates, and a strong core is the foundation of all physical activity, from weightlifting to running. I personally use Pilates when I train high-performance male athletes to improve synchronized muscle activation, proper alignment, and strength while helping them recover from or avoid injuries. Trust me when I say- Pilates is never easy for them! They’re often surprised by how challenging it is! The benefits? Better performance, quicker recovery, and a stronger, more resilient body. It’s time to reshape the relationship between Pilates and masculinity. Those who push past that initial hesitation will discover a world of incredible benefits. That’s why online Pilates is the best way to start - no pressure, just you and the workout! It’s important to note: I’m not trying to convert anyone to practicing Pilates exclusively. On the contrary. I always recommend continuing with your favorite sports or outdoor activities. Combining Pilates with your preferred form of exercise, whether it’s martial arts, hitting the gym, or playing soccer with your kids, is the best way to achieve a balanced and healthy lifestyle. Pilates is the perfect complement to whatever workout you love, helping you enhance your ability to keep doing it long-term. So , If this resonates with you, I’m offering a free private consultation on how to integrate Pilates into your daily lifestyle for the first 10 sign-ups! Don’t just take my word for it. - Relieve Sciatica Pain and Enhance Mobility with Pilates Techniques
Sciatica often refers to the pain that runs along the path of the sciatic nerve, extending from the lower back through the hips, buttocks, and down each leg. This discomfort can result from a range of issues, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, or pelvic imbalances. Managing sciatica can be challenging, but incorporating Pilates into your routine can provide relief and enhance mobility. How I recoverd from Sciatica Pilates is a low-impact exercise method that prioritizes core strength, flexibility, and body awareness. This makes it an excellent choice for those suffering from sciatica. In this post, we will explore how Pilates can alleviate sciatica pain and improve mobility, providing you with practical exercises and techniques tailored to your needs. Understanding Sciatica To effectively address sciatica, it's important to understand the condition. Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve becomes compressed or irritated, which can lead to varying levels of pain. Symptoms may include: Sharp or burning pain in the leg Numbness or tingling down the leg Weakness in the affected leg Discomfort that worsens with prolonged sitting or standing These symptoms can deeply affect daily life. Research shows that around 10% to 40% of people experience sciatica at some point. This statistic highlights the importance of finding effective methods for pain management. The Role of Pilates in Managing Sciatica Pilates can be instrumental in managing sciatica by emphasizing core strength, flexibility, and posture. Let’s break down how Pilates can help: 1. Building Core Strength A strong core offers stability and support for the spine. In fact, research has shown that strengthening the core can reduce the risk of lower back pain by up to 50%. Many Pilates exercises target the abdominal muscles, lower back, and pelvic floor, helping to stabilize the body and lessen irritation to the sciatic nerve. 2. Enhancing Flexibility Pilates promotes muscle flexibility, especially in the hamstrings, hip flexors, and lower back. Increased flexibility in these areas can relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve. For instance, studies indicate that individuals who engage in regular flexibility training experience about a 30% reduction in back pain. 3. Improving Posture Poor posture can worsen sciatica symptoms. Pilates emphasizes proper alignment and body mechanics, helping you develop better posture awareness. This adjustment can decrease nerve tension and improve overall body alignment. Getting Started with Pilates for Sciatica Before starting Pilates for sciatica relief, consult a healthcare professional, such as a physical therapist or physician, to determine if it’s right for you and to discuss any necessary precautions. Once you have the go-ahead, follow these steps to begin: 1. Find a Qualified Instructor Working with an experienced Pilates instructor who understands sciatica is invaluable. They can tailor exercises to your specific needs, ensuring safe and effective practice. 2. Set Realistic Goals Set clear, achievable goals for your Pilates practice. Focus on improving pain levels, mobility, and overall strength. Progress may be gradual, so patience is key. 3. Create a Consistent Routine Aim to practice Pilates two to three times a week. Over time, you may notice improvements in both your sciatica symptoms and your overall health. Key Pilates Exercises for Alleviating Sciatica Pain The following exercises can help alleviate sciatica pain by focusing on core strength, flexibility, and stability. Always perform these movements cautiously and listen to your body. 1. Pelvic Tilts Pelvic tilts help loosen the lower back and strengthen the abdominal muscles. How to perform: Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart. Inhale and prepare. Exhale and gently tilt your pelvis upward, pressing your lower back into the floor. Hold for a moment, then return to the starting position. Repeat 8-10 times. 2. Cat-Cow Stretch The Cat-Cow stretch increases spinal flexibility and eases lower back tension. How to perform: Begin on your hands and knees in a tabletop position. Inhale as you arch your back (Cat), lifting your head and tailbone. Exhale, rounding your back as you tuck your chin and tailbone (Cow). Repeat this sequence for 8-10 cycles. 3. Bridging Bridging strengthens the glutes and core while stretching the lower back and hip flexors, relieving pressure on the sciatic nerve. How to perform: Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart. Inhale and prepare. Exhale and lift your hips toward the ceiling, squeezing your glutes and relaxing your shoulders. Hold for a few breaths before lowering back down. Repeat 8-10 times. 4. Seated Forward Fold This stretch targets the hamstrings and lower back. How to perform: Sit on the floor with legs extended in front of you. Inhale and lengthen your spine. Exhale and hinge at the hips, gently reaching toward your toes. Hold for several breaths, feeling the stretch in your lower back and hamstrings. Hold for 15-30 seconds, then release. 5. Child’s Pose Child’s pose is a gentle stretch that relaxes the lower back. How to perform: Start on your hands and knees in a tabletop position. Lower your hips back toward your heels and extend your arms forward, resting your forehead on the mat. Breathe deeply and relax into the stretch. Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Important Considerations While Pilates can be effective for sciatica, keep these important considerations in mind: 1. Listen to Your Body Pay attention to your body's responses. - Learning to Love a Changing Body- A real talk on body image, self-compassion, and moving forward
One thing I can promise you: our bodies will change. There’s no way around it. We grow up. We grow older. We live, we love, we lose. We get injured. We heal. We go through phases with more time and less time, with or without kids, partners, and routines. And of course, we age. Our bodies evolve, slow down, and shift. It's not just normal- it's science. And as our bodies change, so does our body image. So the question becomes: How do we cope with it? I’ve been wanting to write about this for a while. It’s a topic that’s been close to my heart for years- but even more so now. Because lately, my body has changed. A lot. Yes, I’m pregnant. And yes, this pregnancy has been kind so far in many ways (knock on wood). But still- it’s a whole new body I’m living in. One, I’m learning to move in, to dress, to carry through the day. One that feels unfamiliar, even though it’s mine. It’s not forever, I know- but it’s also not just about this moment. It’s bigger than pregnancy. It’s about how we all adapt to change. Or struggle to. Body Image - The Mirror Isn’t Usually the Problem Let’s get honest for a second: How you feel about how you look is rarely just about how you look. When I am busy, feel clear on my purpose, connected to what I love, and grounded in my day-to-day, I feel good in my skin. But when I feel off- uninspired, stuck, low on direction- that’s when the mirror becomes a battleground. Can you relate? The fact is that it’s often not about the body at all. It’s about the stories we attach to it. The control we think we should have over it. The perfection we expect from it. Relearning How to Move Forward What I’ve come to realize is this: every time your body changes, you get to learn it again. Not just how to move it, but how to care for it? How to make it feel like home. You don’t have to love every phase. But you do get to choose how you show up for yourself. You get to stay curious instead of judgmental. You get to ask: What does this body need now? How can I support it today? This mindset-this flexible, evolving way of relating to our bodies- isn’t just about pregnancy. It’s a lifelong tool. One I hope more of us learn to practice, regardless of where we are in our journey. So here’s your reminder: Your body is allowed to change. And you’re allowed to feel whatever comes with that. But when the criticism kicks in, try- just try- to shift your focus inward. To ask: What can I celebrate today? What’s going well, even if it’s small? Because maybe it’s not about bouncing back, or staying the same, or being perfect. Maybe it’s just about evolving. Coming Soon: The MUVwell Pregnancy Program I’ve been quietly working behind the scenes on something special- a new MUVwell program just for pregnancy. It’s still in the works, but I’m so excited to share more soon. If you or someone you love is pregnant (or trying!), pass this along and invite them to subscribe to these emails: https://www.muvwellbyliron.com/join-the-community …I’d love to have them join the journey! - Recovering from Injury: The Mistake You Might Be Making
Recovering from Injury Recovering from an injury is a journey often riddled with frustration, setbacks, and an overwhelming desire to return to normalcy as quickly as possible. Whether it's a sprained ankle, a torn muscle, or a more severe injury like a fractured bone, the road to recovery can be long and challenging. For many, this eagerness to get back to their regular activities often leads to a critical mistake - rushing the recovery process. In this comprehensive guide, we’ll delve into the nuances of injury recovery, highlighting the importance of patience, gradual progression, and expert guidance. We’ll also discuss how integrating practices like Pilates can significantly enhance your recovery and prevent future injuries. This conversation hits close to home for many, and the insights provided here could be the difference between a full recovery and a lingering injury. The Importance Of Gradual Progression Imagine a scenario where a dedicated runner battles an Achilles issue, yearning to resume their usual running routine promptly. The desire to swiftly jump back into regular activities is relatable, but rushing the recovery often leads to setbacks. A client of mine, who recently faced a knee injury, illustrates the importance of gradual progression in recovery. Why Gradual Progression Matters in Recovering from Injury Gradual progression is the cornerstone of effective injury recovery. When you push your body too hard, too soon, you risk re-injury or exacerbating the current issue. Your body needs time to heal, adapt, and strengthen before it can handle the demands of your usual activities. This client, an avid weightlifter, was squatting heavy loads before the injury. After the strain, he was eager to return to his previous routine but understood the need for patience. We started with lighter weights and gradually increased the load over several weeks. This method of progressive overload allowed him to rebuild strength without risking further injury. By the time he reached his original weight, he surpassed his previous record, lifting even more with confidence and stability. This experience underscores the critical role of patience in recovery, giving the body time to adapt and gradually increasing the intensity of workouts. Practical Steps for Gradual Progression Whether you’re dealing with a minor sprain or a more serious injury, the principle of gradual progression should guide your recovery: Start with Light Activity: Begin with activities that place minimal stress on the injured area. This could be light walking, gentle stretching, or low-impact exercises. Monitor Pain Levels: Pain is your body’s way of telling you that something isn’t right. If you experience pain during an activity, it’s a sign that you’re pushing too hard. Scale back and give your body more time to heal. Increase Intensity Slowly: Once you can perform light activities without pain, gradually increase the intensity. This might mean adding a bit more weight, increasing the duration, or incorporating more complex movements. Prioritize Recovery Days: Your body needs time to recover between workouts. Ensure you’re incorporating rest days into your routine to allow for full recovery. Stay Consistent: Consistency is key to recovery. Even if you’re progressing slowly, regular activity will help your body adapt and strengthen over time. For those dealing with specific injuries, like knee or back pain, personalized coaching can make a world of difference. At MUVwell by Liron, we offer tailored programs designed to help you recover safely and effectively. Common Mistakes in Recovering from Injury? Discover why gradual progression, incorporating Pilates, and listening to your body are essential for effective and lasting recovery. Recovering from an injury is not just about physical healing; it also involves mental and emotional resilience. However, many people unknowingly sabotage their recovery by making common mistakes. Let’s explore some of these pitfalls and how to avoid them. Rushing the Process One of the most common mistakes is rushing the recovery process. It’s understandable - you want to get back to your regular routine, whether that’s running, lifting, or playing sports. However, skipping steps or ignoring pain signals can lead to re-injury or even chronic issues. Case Study: The Runner’s Dilemma Consider the case of a runner who suffered a stress fracture in their foot. After a few weeks of rest, they felt eager to hit the pavement again. However, instead of easing back into running, they attempted their usual 10k route. The result? The stress fracture re-emerged, setting them back by several months. The lesson here is clear: Don’t rush. Gradual progression, as discussed earlier, is key to avoiding setbacks. Ignoring Professional Advice Another mistake is ignoring the advice of healthcare professionals. Whether it’s a physiotherapist, doctor, or Pilates instructor, these experts have specialized knowledge that can guide your recovery. Ignoring their advice can lead to improper healing or long-term issues. Tip: If you’re recovering from an injury, consider scheduling a consultation with a professional. At MUVwellbyLiron , we offer personalized coaching to help you recover safely and effectively. Overcompensating When one part of the body is injured, it’s common to overcompensate with other muscles or joints. While this might seem like a good idea in the short term, it can lead to imbalances and new injuries down the line. Example: After injuring your right ankle, you might put more weight on your left leg. Over time, this can lead to strain on the left knee or hip, creating a new set of problems. To avoid this, focus on balanced recovery and engage in exercises that strengthen the entire body, not just the injured area. Integrating Pilates into Your Recovery Pilates is a powerful tool for injury recovery. Its low-impact, controlled movements make it ideal for strengthening the body without risking further harm. But what exactly makes Pilates so effective for recovery? The Benefits of Pilates Pilates focuses on core strength, flexibility, and controlled movements. These elements are crucial for anyone recovering from an injury, as they help rebuild strength and stability without overloading the body. Core Strength: A strong core is essential for overall body stability. Many injuries, particularly in the lower back, hips, and knees, can be exacerbated by a weak core. Pilates exercises specifically target these muscles, helping to improve posture and reduce strain on the injured area. Flexibility: Flexibility is another critical component of recovery. Tight muscles can pull on joints and tendons, leading to pain and limited mobility. Pilates helps lengthen and stretch muscles, improving flexibility and reducing the risk of re-injury. Controlled Movements: One of the key principles of Pilates is control. Unlike high-impact exercises that can strain the body, Pilates emphasizes slow, deliberate movements. This approach allows you to strengthen your body without putting undue stress on injured areas. How to Incorporate Pilates into Your Routine If you’re new to Pilates, it’s important to start with the basics. Focus on foundational exercises that target the core, such as the hundred , leg circles , and pelvic tilts . As you build strength and confidence, you can progress to more advanced exercises that challenge your stability and flexibility. For those recovering from specific injuries, working with a Pilates instructor who understands your needs is crucial. At MUVwell by Liron, we offer personalized Pilates programs designed to support your recovery journey. Success Story: Pilates and Knee Recovery Let’s take a look at a real-life example of how Pilates can aid in recovery. A client of mine had been struggling with chronic knee pain for years. Despite trying various treatments, the pain persisted, limiting their ability to enjoy physical activities. We began incorporating Pilates into their routine, focusing on exercises that strengthened the core and improved hip flexibility. Over time, the client experienced a significant reduction in pain and was able to resume their favorite activities, including hiking and cycling. This success story highlights the power of Pilates in recovery. By focusing on the body’s foundational strength, we were able to address the root cause of the knee pain, leading to lasting results. Listen To The Experts: Why Professional Guidance Matters It’s crucial to heed the advice of physiotherapists and doctors who possess specialized knowledge in injury recovery. Their guidance is invaluable in navigating the recovery journey effectively. Listen to Your Body First While doctors and physiotherapists provide essential guidance during the recovery process, it’s important to remember that you are the expert on your own body. A healthcare professional might recommend a generic treatment plan, but they may not fully understand how your body feels day-to-day. One of my clients, who was recovering from a knee injury, found that a one-size-fits-all approach wasn't working. Despite following medical advice, he felt his body wasn’t responding well. By listening to his body and communicating his experiences, we adjusted his recovery plan to include gradual progression and focused on movements that felt right for him. This personalized approach, combined with professional guidance, allowed him to recover more effectively. Remember, while expert opinions are valuable, your body knows what it needs. Trust your instincts and communicate openly with your healthcare providers to find the best path to recovery. When it comes to injury recovery, there’s no substitute for expert advice. Whether you’re working with a physiotherapist, doctor, or Pilates instructor, their guidance is invaluable in helping you recover safely and effectively. The Role of Physiotherapists Physiotherapists are trained to diagnose and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal issues. They can create a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific needs, whether that’s recovering from surgery, managing chronic pain, or rehabilitating an injury. In many cases, physiotherapists use a combination of manual therapy, exercises, and education to help you recover. They can also provide advice on how to modify your activities to prevent re-injury. Pro Tip: If you’re struggling with an injury, consider scheduling a session with a physiotherapist. They can assess your condition and provide targeted advice on how to recover. The Role of Pilates Instructors Pilates instructors, particularly those with experience in injury rehabilitation, can be instrumental in your recovery. They understand how to modify exercises to suit your needs and can guide you through movements that promote healing without causing harm. At MUVwell by Liron, our Pilates programs are designed to support injury recovery. Whether you’re dealing with back pain, joint issues, or a sports-related injury, we can create a program that helps you regain strength and mobility. The Role of Doctors Doctors may play a crucial role in the injury recovery process. They can diagnose your condition, provide medical treatment, and refer you to specialists if needed. It’s essential to follow their advice and attend follow-up appointments to ensure your recovery is on track. Building a Support Team Injury recovery often requires a team effort. By working with a physiotherapist, Pilates instructor, and doctor, you can create a comprehensive recovery plan that addresses all aspects of your health. Common Injuries and Recovery Strategies Different injuries require different recovery strategies. Let’s explore some of the most common injuries and how to approach recovery for each. Knee Injuries Knee injuries are incredibly common, particularly among athletes and active individuals. Whether it’s a ligament tear, meniscus injury, or patellar tendinitis, knee injuries can be debilitating. Recovery Strategy: The key to recovering from a knee injury is to strengthen the muscles around the knee while avoiding high-impact activities that could worsen the injury. Pilates is an excellent option, as it allows you to work on stability and strength without putting undue stress on the knee. Tip: Focus on exercises that strengthen the quadriceps, hamstrings, and glutes. These muscles support the knee and can help alleviate pain and prevent further injury. Back Pain Back pain is another common issue, particularly for those who sit for long periods or engage in heavy lifting. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor posture, muscle imbalances, and disc issues. Recovery Strategy: A combination of stretching, strengthening, and posture correction is often the best approach to back pain. Pilates can be particularly beneficial, as it emphasizes core strength and alignment, both of which are crucial for a healthy back. Tip: Start with gentle stretches and core exercises, gradually progressing to more challenging movements as your strength improves. Avoid activities that exacerbate the pain, and focus on maintaining good posture throughout the day. Shoulder Injuries Shoulder injuries, such as rotator cuff tears or impingements, are common in sports like tennis, swimming, and weightlifting. These injuries can be painful and limit your range of motion. Recovery Strategy: Rest and targeted exercises are key to recovering from a shoulder injury. Focus on strengthening the rotator cuff muscles and improving shoulder stability. Pilates can help by providing exercises that target these areas without causing strain. Tip: Avoid overhead movements that could worsen the injury. Instead, focus on exercises that improve shoulder mobility and stability. The Psychological Aspect of Injury Recovery Injury recovery isn’t just a physical process; it’s also a psychological one. Dealing with pain, limited mobility, and the frustration of being sidelined can take a toll on your mental health. Coping with Setbacks Setbacks are a normal part of the recovery process, but they can be incredibly frustrating. It’s important to approach setbacks with patience and a positive mindset. Remember that recovery is a journey, and progress isn’t always linear. Tip: Practice mindfulness and relaxation techniques to manage stress and stay focused on your recovery goals. Surround yourself with supportive friends, family, and professionals who can help you stay motivated. Staying Motivated Staying motivated during recovery can be challenging, especially when progress is slow. Setting small, achievable goals can help you stay on track and maintain a positive outlook. Tip: Celebrate small victories along the way, whether it’s being able to walk without pain or completing a Pilates session. These milestones are important reminders of the progress you’re making. The Role of Nutrition in Recovery Nutrition plays a crucial role in injury recovery. The right nutrients can support healing, reduce inflammation, and provide the energy your body needs to repair itself. Key Nutrients for Recovery Protein: Protein is essential for tissue repair. Make sure you’re consuming enough protein from sources like lean meats, fish, eggs, and plant-based options like beans and lentils. Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce pain and swelling. Include fatty fish like salmon, walnuts, and flaxseeds in your diet. Vitamins and Minerals: Vitamins C, D, and E, along with minerals like calcium and magnesium, are important for bone health and tissue repair. Eat a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to ensure you’re getting these nutrients. Hydration Staying hydrated is also crucial for recovery. Water supports all bodily functions, including the healing process. Make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day, especially if you’re engaging in physical activity. Tip: If you’re recovering from an injury, consider working with a nutritionist to create a diet plan that supports your healing. At MUVwell by Liron, we offer personalized nutrition coaching to complement your recovery process. Conclusion: Embracing the Recovery Journey Recovering from an injury is a complex process that requires patience, discipline, and a holistic approach. By focusing on gradual progression, avoiding common mistakes, integrating Pilates, and seeking expert guidance, you can enhance your recovery and return to your regular activities stronger than ever.
