A Baby on the Way, Sirens in the Air, and Finding Calm from within

This month has been… a lot.

Pregnant woman in black dress stands in a sunlit garden, hands on belly, smiling. Wildflowers and greenery surround her, creating a serene mood.
Baby on the way

We’re weeks away from meeting our baby(!!), we just moved to a new apartment (still on the kibbutz), and both of us are working full time, running our businesses, organizing, nesting, prepping… all the things. It’s a beautiful kind of chaos.

Honestly, I’m excited. A little nervous, yes, but mostly just deeply ready. Ready for birth, ready to meet this new soul. I keep thinking about how giving birth is the ultimate act of transformation. You leave parts of yourself behind, find new rhythms, and connect with your partner in ways you never have before. You don’t really know who you’ll be on the other side, and that’s the magic of it.

At the same time, the world around us feels anything but peaceful. Tensions with Iran have risen dramatically, and in recent weeks, we’ve had to stay alert for incoming missile attacks, never quite sure when the next siren will send us running to a shelter. Living in Israel often means holding joy and fear in the same breath. It’s intense. There’s a kind of weight to the air here- politically, emotionally, collectively, and yet, life keeps moving forward.

And that’s where the real strength lives: in movement, in continuing, in progressing towards something. In the way people still show up for each other. In routines, in breathwork, in sharing food, in stretching our bodies even when our minds are exhausted. Whether it’s a form of coping or healing (or both), I keep coming back to this:

What can I control? Where am I putting my focus?

In preparing for birth, I’ve found that the same tools I use to guide clients through uncertainty: grounding routines, nervous system resets, finding moments of presence and mindfulness, are the ones I need most for myself.Whether it’s facing an unknown delivery date or sirens overhead, we need the same things: Breath. Calm. Support. Movement. A reason to keep looking forward.

So here’s what’s helping me stay anchored right now:

  • Breathwork-just 3 deep breaths can reset your entire system by activating your parasympathetic nervous system and bringing your attention back to your body and self, where you have control

  • Daily rituals-  like a few minutes of mat work, stretching, walking breaks, or checking in with someone I love.

  • Perspective- choosing to focus on excitement and joy, even when negativity around is loud.

We’re all navigating something, whether it’s a big life transition, a hectic season, or just the everyday ups and downs.

Whether you’re preparing for something new or simply trying to stay grounded, remember:

Your body is your greatest support system.Tune into it. Move with it. Let it carry you.
